How to Lose Weight Fast : 8 Tips to Help You Lose Weight

8 tips to lose weight
Having an athletic body is everyone's dream, but because of inadequate activity makes most people overweight and even obese. obesity is a physical condition that causes susceptibility to various diseases. There are many ways to lose weight that can be done, such as a calorie deficit, weight training and so on

Weight loss ultimately comes back to the concept of calories in, calories out: Eat less than you burn and you’ll lose weight. And while it’s possible to lose water weight quickly on a low-carb diet, I certainly wouldn’t advocate for it.

The diet itself can trick you into thinking that this eating style is working — when really, you might gain back what you lost as soon as you eat carbs again. That can feel incredibly dispiriting if you want results that last longer than a week.

Based on my experience in nutrition counseling, most of us tend to snack on foods that aren’t nutrient-dense, but are high in calories. Major culprits often come in the form of refined grains like cereals, chips, crackers, and cookies but also calorie-packed drinks like juice and soda.

Skipping sugary beverages is often the easiest way to lose weight faster. You don’t feel full from drinks, so swapping those out for sparkling water or unsweetened tea and coffee is the best place to start.

If you're looking to speed up weight loss, be mindful of the foods you eat that you don't choose for yourself. Think: food pushers at work or your kids’ leftovers. Noticing where your extra calories actually come from is another step to making better choices in the short and long term.

8 Tips to Help You Lose Weight

1. Drink Water Before Meals

It is often claimed that drinking water can help with weight loss — and that’s true. Drinking water can boost metabolism by 24–30% over a period of 1–1.5 hours, helping you burn off a few more calories.

One study showed that drinking a half-liter (17 ounces) of water about half an hour before meals helped dieters eat fewer calories and lose 44% more weight, compared to those who didn’t drink the water.

2. Cut back on refined carbs

One way to lose weight quickly is to cut back on sugars and starches, or carbohydrates. This could be with a low carb eating plan or by reducing refined carbs and replacing them with whole grains.

When you do that, your hunger levels go down, and you generally end up eating fewer calories. With a low carb eating plan, you’ll utilize burning stored fat for energy instead of carbs.

If you choose to eat more complex carbs like whole grains along with a calorie deficit, you’ll benefit from higher fiber and digest them more slowly. This makes them more filling to keep you satisfied.

A 2020 study confirmed that a very low carbohydrate diet was beneficial for losing weight in older populations.

Research also suggests that a low carb diet can reduce appetite, which may lead to eating fewer calories without thinking about it or feeling hungry.

Note that the long-term effects of a low carb diet are still being researched. It can also be difficult to adhere to a low carb diet, which may lead to yo-yo dieting and less success in maintaining a healthy weight.

There are potential downsides to a low carb diet that may lead you to a different method. Reduced calorie diets can also lead to weight loss and be easier to maintain for longer periods of time.

If you opt for a diet focusing instead on whole grains over refined carbs, a 2019 study correlated high whole grain with lower body mass index (BMI) (4Trusted Source).

To determine the best way for you to lose weight, consult your doctor for recommendations.

4. Get more active

Being active is key to losing weight and keeping it off. As well as providing lots of health benefits, exercise can help burn off the excess calories you cannot lose through diet alone. Find an activity you enjoy and are able to fit into your routine.

Exercise, while not required to lose weight, can help you lose weight more quickly. Lifting weights has particularly good benefits.

By lifting weights, you’ll burn lots of calories and prevent your metabolism from slowing down, which is a common side effect of losing weight

5. Low carb and leafy green vegetables

Don’t be afraid to load your plate with leafy green vegetables. They’re packed with nutrients, and you can eat very large amounts without greatly increasing calories and carbs.

Vegetables to include for low carb or low calorie eating plans:

  • broccoli
  • cauliflower
  • spinach
  • tomatoes
  • kale
  • Brussels sprouts
  • cabbage
  • Swiss chard
  • lettuce
  • cucumber

6. Eat slowly

Many people eat their food quickly and carelessly. This may lead to weight gain and other health issues.  Eating slowly may be a much smarter approach, as it could provide a number of benefits.

Eating quickly can lead to weight gain over time, while eating slowly makes you feel more full and boosts weight-reducing hormones.

7. Go to bed earlier

There's a ton of research that demonstrates getting less than the desired amount, about seven hours of sleep per night can slow down your metabolism.

Plus, when you're awake for longer, you're naturally more likely to snack on midnight munchies. So don't skimp on your slept's, and you'll be rewarded with an extra edge when it comes to losing weight.

Sleep is important for many reasons, and poor sleep is one of the biggest risk factors for weight gain.

8. Do not stock junk food

To avoid temptation, do not stock junk food – such as chocolate, biscuits, crisps and sweet fizzy drinks at home. Instead, opt for healthy snacks, such as fruit, unsalted rice cakes, oat cakes, unsalted or unsweetened popcorn, and fruit juice.
